Life means not giving up on yourself and on people

Since last week, the thought current that keeps reverberating within me is “Not giving up on people”. These are words given by my Guru, Paramahamsa Nithyananda (fondly known as Swamiji) in 2013 his New Year’s message to the world which seemed to come alive this whole week for me when the happenings in my life started to unfold.

Enriching people to awaken to their original state of completion has become my very breath, the spiritual work I do on a daily basis. One of the important qualities in enriching work is never give up on myself and people. Swamiji gave me this precious key which helped me to feel a sense of responsibility without feeling powerless is “Never give up on people”. You see, our experience of life is happening to us with others from outside, it is the people that makes life a happening. People are life, people around us are the life happening to us. If we give up on them, soon we will give up on ourselves, we will lose self-confidence; then we also start giving up in life itself. Giving up on people is considered a partial suicide, on the other hand, victory happens by our ability not to give up on our self and on people. The feeling of empowerment comes only with this one master’s key – not giving up on people.

Completion of insecurity with wealth

I can say that one of my past insecurity patterns is with money or wealth. I grew up in a large family of eight and my father was a humble construction worker. Money was a constant struggle and often the reason for fights between my parents. At a very young age of 5-6, there was this one violent fight between my parents because of money which led me to develop a wrong cognition about money out of fear – “Money is so important because with money, people don’t have to fight.”. Money was perceived as a security blanket for me.

Living in a small nation like Singapore where we are constantly reminded by the government that there is a lack of natural resources in our country and people are the only resource that we have. The propaganda is always based on the same insecurity so as to keep us feeling inadequate that we need to keep running our lives to build our ideal dream home, happy family lifestyle and a comfortable retirement nest. That is the kind of societal conditioning I grew up with in relation with wealth.

Be the Ultimate Gambler in Life

I was reminded of a discourse given by my master, Paramahamsa Nithyananda, he once said that: “An ordinary gambler requires 3 qualities – courage to start, the power to proceed or execute and the energy to let go.”

We all know that courage is necessary to understand the laws of gambling since it involves probable loss of huge sums of money, possessions and name and fame. The attitude of a gambler should be: If it goes it goes, if it comes it comes. There is no sure-win in gambling, in fact, the chance of losing your stake is higher than winning.

Once you have the courage to overcome this fear of loss, you need the power to execute with the play and stake what is necessary. The outcome being uncertain, you need the energy to let go and accept regardless of the positive or negative outcome. You understand clearly that it requires energy to let go both the extremes of the possible outcome.
