Are you affected by the physical, emotional and mental ups and downs in life?
Do you know that the pain or pleasure which we experience is transient?

Here’s a beautiful story by my Guru, Paramahamsa Nithyananda who is a living incarnation (fondly known as Swamiji):

Once a disciple went to his master and said: ‘Master, I am not able to sit for meditation. My legs ache, I feel distracted.’
The master just said: ‘It will pass’
After two weeks, the disciple went back to the master, this time saying: ‘I am able to meditate beautifully, I feel so aware and blissful.’
The same master again replied: ‘It will pass’

I would like to quote the Upanishad (ancient Vedic scriptures), which is a source of true knowledge. In the 8th verse of Isa Vasya Upanishad, it states that: –

sa paryagāc-chukram akāyam avraṇam asnāviram śuddham apāpa-viddham |
kavir manīṣī paribhūḥ svayambhūr yathātathyato-arthān vyadadhāc-chāśvatībhyaḥ samābhyaḥ || 8 ||

Translation – “Pure Consciousness is all-pervasive beyond the coming and going, absolute radiant and self-effulgent, un-embodied boundary-less whole, woundless, muscleless having no incompletion with the body; Consciousness is the ever-pure space devoid of the dirt of ignorance (beyond causal body), and is untouched by the delusion of incompletion.”

Basically, this ancient yet timeless Vedic scripture reminds us again and again that we are the pure consciousness – the self-effulgent light which came from the Source, we are not this body-mind which is matter – the perishables. No matter what the external adversities or pleasures can be, the soul remains untouched by anything outside.

Hot and cold are metaphorical representations of pleasure and pain. Both pleasure and pain are from the mind which constantly oscillates. The root of pain and pleasure is the same – the moving mind. Just go through both extremes in witnessing state or restful awareness, you will be able to go beyond both. Science of completion (poornatva) means dissolving the mind that experiences both.

Just this week, two clients came to see me on a private basis to address their personal issues. One was undergoing through a challenging period in her career because of irregular flow of income as her new business ventures hit a snag whereas the other client was suffering from a recurring nausea and bloatedness in her stomach. Unfortunately, she was not able to find the root cause of this problem.

For the first client, she went through the emotional ups and downs affected by the beliefs or cognitions she carried about herself from her past conditioning. As we worked through her inner image and outer image, we identified there were gaps in 7 out of 10 perceptions of self. We dug out the source of the gaps and completed with wrong cognitions about self. She restored her confidence and the powerful space for manifesting a new reality!

For the second client, through her sharing I was able to see the cause of her disturbance in her digestive system was due to worries and stress of being a mother of a child with special needs. She was carrying certain guilt, self-blaming and anger imposed by society and her wrong cognition and non-acceptance of her life. The healing process for her was to complete the past hangovers as a mother and drop the feelings of guilt, self-blaming and anger so that she can embrace her life in celebration of her child’s uniqueness. She left the session feeling lighter and happier.

From these two cases, we can see that sufferings are impermanent if we are established in the eternal dimension of the soul, the pure consciousness. We remain untouched from any hot or cold in the outer world, we can simply go beyond both pain/pleasure and get back to the pure state of restful awareness! So in essence, hot or cold, it will pass. Namaste 😀
